Gilbert Molina was born in East Los Angeles but now happily resides at Artspace PS109. Gilbert holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Theatre with a focus in Asian Performance from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a Masters of Fine Arts in Acting from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). While at CalArts, Gilbert received the Cheech Marin Endowment Scholarship from the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.
Along with contemporary and classical acting training, Gilbert has studied with master teachers in Chinese Jingju (aka Beijing opera), Indonesian Randai, and Japanese Kabuki and Kyogen.
Gilbert has performed on stages and galleries around the world including American Samoa at the Festival of Pacific Arts, in China at the Jiangsu Province Jingju Academy, and in Peru with Yuyachkani.
Favorite recent projects include Where Are They Now, a performance art piece directed by Marina McClure at Chashama in Harlem and The Least Important Things directed by visual artist Emily Mast at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Gilbert is a member of Magis Theatre Company and currently teaches acting at Essex County College.
