Jamila Mohamad Hooker

 

Jamila Mohamad Hooker was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1984. At the age of 4 she escaped one of many wars in the Middle East and moved as a refugee to Germany. In 2008, after earning her Bachelor of the Arts Degree from Ruhr-University in Bochum double majoring in American Studies and Middle Eastern Studies, she made the big move to New York City.  

Jamila is a visual artist and activist. She focuses mainly on political, social and human issues related to the Middle East and the Western perception of it. Her project Foreign Postcards has reached worldwide participation and is growing daily. Her work was exhibited in New York City at the Nathan Cummings Foundation and at the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU.
