Performer and Experimental Dance Maker

 

Rosy Simas is an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation from the Heron clan. Simas is a Minneapolis based performer and experimental dance maker. Simas is a McKnight Choreography Fellow (2016), Guggenheim Creative Arts Fellow (2015), First People’s Fund Artist in Business Leadership Fellow (2016), and Native Arts and Cultures Foundation Fellow (2013). 

Simas creates work dealing with a wide range of cultural and social issues from her Native feminist perspective. Her work is interdisciplinary created in collaboration with other accomplished artists from different disciplines. She has worked with photographer Douglas Bealsey on their film Threshold (in the IFP MNTV program at the Walker Art Center).

She is currently working with poet Heid E. Erdrich (Ojibwe), filmmaker Elizabeth Day (Ojibwe) and French composer François Richomme on Skin(s), which will premiere October 21-23, 2016 at Intermedia Arts in Minneapolis and tour to Duluth, Riverside, Berkeley, Oakland, Chicago and Evanston.
