Community Life

We invite you to take a look at the "Community Life" feature of the Artspace website. Artspace buildings are lively, vital artist communities and our intention here is to offer a glimpse of the building-wide events and community activities happening in Artspace projects across the country.

A Dream Come True

I'd always dreamed of living and working in my own art space. Like many artists, I began producing my art in small, cramped spaces called apartments. My paintings shared storage space with clothes closets and in boxes under my bed. Painting supplies were categorized, labeled, and ziplocked in plastic baggies.

A few positive things resulted from this though, I learned to keep my painting enviornment clean and organized. I became more determined to have a working studio away from home, family, telephones and other interruptions.

When Artspace properties developed the Traffic Zone property, I became one of the early co-op members and that was 12 years ago. Not only do I produce and exhibit in my studio, my space affords me the opportunity to teach classes and have poetry readings. I've become intergrated in the local art communities, expanded my acquaintances and of course I no longer have to store my work under a bed.

The development of properties for working artist has been one of the greatest accomplishments of Artspace. Its local staff is a delightful group. They're personable, open, delightful to work with, and accomplished.
