Artspace went to Scranton in 2005 at the invitation of Scranton Tomorrow for the purpose of identifying a site suitable for an Artspace development. The Scranton Laceworks, a 563,000 square-foot historic lace factory emerged as an ideal candidate for development. In spring of 2006 the entire site was purchased by a real estate developer. The developer is now working with Artspace to incorporate live/work space into plans for this mixed-use development.
This Artspace project will create 35 permanently affordable live/work studios for individuals and their families, plus a modest amount of arts-compatible commercial space.
Expected completion is late 2009.
