Overview

The Northside Artist Lofts project is a mixed-use redevelopment of the block located at 212 James Avenue North in Minneapolis' Harrison Neighborhood, approximately one mile from the Minneapolis Central Business District. The Harrison neighborhood has a rich historical and cultural heritage supporting the arts and creative sectors. The site is located in a brownfield area in need of redevelopment to better serve the neighborhood and the environment. The Glenwood Avenue West Market District, as well as the Metro Transit bus service, make the location well suited for residential and commercial development. Additionally, the planned Blue and Green Line LRT extensions will be within a ½ mile of the site, as are recreational bike trails.

The site is currently occupied by a vacant industrial building and parking area. The housing will create a new, 5-story, 100-unit, LEED Silver designed building located on the north side of the block. It will include affordable live/work apartments for residents earning 60% or below of Area Median Income (AMI). Many of the units are 2 and 3 bedrooms to accommodate families and multi-occupant households.

The project will be rich with amenities available to all residents, including a large gallery at the main entrance, community work space, community gathering areas, outdoor arts engagement and child play areas, and underground parking.
