Planned Giving

If you share our long-term thinking and sustainability, please consider making a planned gift to Artspace.

Part of what makes Artspace such an unusual organization is our commitment to creating affordable spaces for artists that remain affordable and dedicated to artists in perpetuity.  We won’t sell our projects for a profit, nor will we flip units to market rates.  Our oldest projects are more than 25 years old, and they remain dedicated to the same principles that were in place when we built them.

If you share our long-term thinking and sustainability, please consider making a planned gift to Artspace.

Planned giving, most typically through a provision in one’s will, is a practice that allows donors to make larger and greater impact gifts than they typically can through their annual income. Often there are also significant tax benefits available through planned giving. There are a number of online resources available, such as www.plannedgiving.com, and it may be valuable to talk to either your attorney or financial advisor if you have one.

Including Artspace in your estate plan can be as simple as making a provision in your will or trust that designates either a specific amount or a percentage of your estate to Artspace. You can also name Artspace as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or retirement plan. In addition, an attorney or financial advisor could help structure various types of Charitable Trusts that provide specific benefits such as reductions in estate taxes, elimination of capital gains, and other tax deductions.

To add a provision for an unrestricted gift to Artspace in your will, consider this sample language:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to Artspace Projects, a nonprofit 501c3 organization headquartered in Minneapolis, MN with a federal tax identification number of EIN 41-1350071, ________% of my estate or the sum of $______________. I direct that this gift be used to support Artspace’s mission of creating, fostering and preserving affordable spaces for artists and arts organizations.

Alternatively, if you wish to support a specific element of Artspace’s work or a specific project, consider the following:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to Artspace Projects, a nonprofit 501c3 organization headquartered in Minneapolis, MN with a federal tax identification number of EIN 41-1350071, ________% of my estate or the sum of $______________. I direct that this gift be used to [specify intent].

Finally, you may also consider making a planned gift held in permanent reserve as part of the Artspace endowment.  In that case, the following may help:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to Artspace Projects, a nonprofit 501c3 organization headquartered in Minneapolis, MN with a federal tax identification number of EIN 41-1350071, ________% of my estate or the sum of $______________. I direct that this gift be used to as a permanent endowment, the income only from which shall be used for Artspace’s general purposes.

While planned giving requires a couple extra steps, the basics can be quite simple to execute.  If you would like to discuss these opportunities further, please contact Kate Tucker, our Annual Fund Director for National Advancement, at kate.tucker@artspace.org or 312.206.7230.
